The cyberattack affecting Belgium’s tax administration reminds us that business continuity also depends on the services we rely on.

Confirmed information as of 29 October 2026

FPS Finance says the intrusion on 27–28 October was detected within hours. Suspected components were isolated, making MyMinfin unavailable. It reports that attackers did not access data or control applications, and that no data was leaked. Recovery requires care. Its statement extends the deadline to 16 November 2026 for tax returns due around 31 October. Check your circumstances through official channels or your accountant.

At MYCIO, we can’t be everywhere 😉

We would love to help protect everyone
but we can’t be everywhere. Even with good coffee and the best intentions!

More seriously, an incident alone does not let outsiders judge an organisation’s security. Rapid detection, containment and a prepared recovery matter. No serious provider can promise zero risk.

Could your business keep working?

Without speculating about the cause of this incident, here are useful questions for your organisation:

  • Access: do sensitive accounts use multifactor authentication and permissions limited to each person’s needs?
  • Updates: who monitors security patches for computers, servers, applications and network equipment?
  • Backups: have you tested a restore and protected a backup against compromise of your regular accounts?
  • Continuity: who should you contact, which access should you suspend, and how would you work without an essential service?

Watch for unexpected messages offering to “reactivate” tax services. Enter official website addresses yourself and never share authentication codes in response to an unexpected message.

We can’t be everywhere. But we can be by your side.

MYCIO can help you review access, Microsoft 365, equipment and backups, then set priorities suited to your business.
